How To Make A Master Grocery List
That’s why I’ve created a printable grocery list template to help us both! (Bonus: It goes with my super cute printable meal planning worksheet!). Here’s everything you need to know about creating a basic grocery list:
A basic grocery list is exactly what it sounds like…a list of the food and household items you usually buy, where you can write down any extras you might need. Think of this as a starting point when making your grocery list, because instead of spending time writing everything off from scratch, your list includes your family’s staples.

But buying items from a list and only buying items on the list that you want can help you save money by reducing the number of impulse purchases. My husband and I have challenged ourselves to buy items from our grocery list for the past few months and our grocery spending has gone down by 20% that month!
There’s nothing worse than spending an hour shopping to get home and realize you forgot to buy a key ingredient for dinner that night… so you have to spend another half hour to pick it up at the store or stock it in your pantry. To find an agent.
But a grocery list can save you time by reducing the number of trips to the store! And, since you already have a grocery list made for you, you won’t have to spend every week writing one from scratch.
Plus, you can create your own grocery list that matches your grocery store layout, making grocery shopping a whole lot easier! For example, if you go to the produce section first and then the meat section when you walk in the door, you can set your grocery list with vegetables and fruits first and meat second so you don’t have to go through your entire grocery list. . Browse to find what you need from each section.

Once your shopping list is ready, you have several options for how to actually use it:
If you want to have a new grocery list to use each week, you can print several copies at a time and keep them in a home management binder or kitchen drawer. Then, at the beginning of each week, you can add a new list to the front of your fridge or family control center and add whatever is on the next week’s list.
Then when it’s time to go to the grocery store, your grocery list is ready for you! Just take it out of the fridge and go shopping!

On the day you go shopping, write everything on your list on a separate piece of paper to take with you to the store. Or you can also use your cell phone to take pictures of items while you’re in the store.
Of course, your staple food list will be specific to your family’s tastes and dietary restrictions, but here are some ideas of what to include on your list to get you started:
And did I mention it’s editable… meaning you can print your shopping list right on the sheet and you can even name the categories to best suit your needs! Or, of course, you can just print it out and manually type it into your shopping list.
